Sanliurfa Balikligol and Abraham cave

Gobeklitepe ;  There are substantial grounds to claim that the most significant archaeological discovery of the 21st century is the Gobeklitepe. First of all, it dates back to 12 thousand years ago. In other words, it’s approximately 8 thousand years older than the pyramids and 7 thousand years older than the Stonehenge. Furthermore, it is even older than the human transition to settled life. Therefore, contrary to the widely held view, it proves the existence of religious beliefs prior to the establishment of the first cities.

Sacred Fish Area Balıklıgol ;  This place is in the center of the city and it’s one of the most important tourist attractions. According to the legend, King Nimrod had Abraham thrown into the pyre, but God intervened to save him, turned the pyre into the water and the embers into fish. You may feed the fish during your visit here.

Cave of Abraham ;  In the lands of Sanlıurfa area was once a city of a Hurrite state in the second millennium BC. Some believe that Abraham was born in a cave near a place where the Mevlid Halil Mosque stands now. The site and the cave itself are, therefore, regarded as sacred.

Halil-uur Rahman Mosque ;  At the foot of the hills, the lovely Halil-uur Rahman Mosque is built around Balıklıgol lake- the living space of the sacred carps.

Bazaar ;  The city has one of the most authentic bazaar areas in Turkey and this place is heavily visited by locals, also tourists. With the unique smell of this place, you can shop anything comes to mind from handmade leather works to antiques. There are tea shops for you to enjoy as well. To capture the spirit of Sanlıurfa wander through the vaulted eastern bazaar and linger in the courtyards of the old hans (inns) and don't forget to drop in Gümrük Hanı and Barutçu Hanı – the most interesting of the old hans !

Harran ;  Harran is located about 40 km south of Sanliurfa towards the direction of the frontier of Syria, for this reason the population in this town will have Arabic as a native language. Harran houses are built like hives made of mud and hay. The houses are warm in winter and cool in the scorching heat of summer. These houses exist only in Turkey, Syria and Italy. Harran was important for being a commercial, cultural and religious center since 4000 years. The world's first Islamic and scientific university was built in Harran in the 7th century in Umayyad times. The holy mosque (Ulu Cami) is visible from these noises called Suayip Sehri.

Archeology Museum ;  This new museum is one of the largest and most important in the Southeast region of Turkey. The sections of the museum cover all periods from the pre-Neolithic to the Ottoman era. The oldest rooms display remains from the excavations of Gobeklitepe, Nevalicori and many other pre-Neolithic ruins. Visiting this museum they can better understand the importance of the first years of human history and the sense of the  "zero point of history" .
